The coastal region of Georgia has a relatively moderate climate. Average temperatures of the islands are slightly lower than on the mainland. Sea breezes offer relief from intense summer heat. Daily maximum temperatures in July and August (the warmest months) are usually in the 80s and low 90s. The islands are the only part of the state south of Atlanta that has mean daily maximum temperatures below 90F in July and August (Carter 1967).

Winters are relatively mild and short. The average minimum temperature for December and January (the coldest months) is about 43F. On the average, there are 305 freeze-free days at Brunswick and 267 at Savannah (Carter 1967)
Tybee Island is a unique small coastal barrier island only 11 miles east of Savannah, GA. The origin of the unusual name of "Tybee" is in itself a legend. Native Americans came to the island to hunt and fish, and gave it the name Tybee, which is a Euchee Indian word meaning "salt."
Approximately 2,500 locals call Tybee home with the summer population swelling to 8,000 at times. Tybee has many restaurants - from fine dining to favorites with a more casual atmosphere. Our rental packet will include our personal favorites.

Beach lovers from all over the world come to the Tybee Island beaches, Lighthouse, Marine Science center, Museums, Fort Screven and nearby Fort Pulaski.

Tybee Island's history is reflected by theLighthouse, constructed in 1739. The structure, which stands today is 154 feet high.

Numerous historic attractions on or near the island range from Fort Pulaski National Monument, Fort Pulaski was a Civil War - era fort and is now operated by the National Park Service, to the famous Savannah Historic District, located west of Tybee Island.
Come and explore the island's newest addition, the Tybee Pier and Pavilion, located on the strand between 15th and Tybrisa streets.

Tybee is a peaceful 15 minute drive over the marsh from historic Savannah, GA. Savannah is the setting for the popular novel, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."
From 1897 to 1947, Fort Screven was an integral part of America's coastal defense system. Troops trained and stood guard on Tybee Island throughout the Spanish-American War of 1898, World War I, and World War II. In 1947 the Fort was closed and sold to the town of Tybee.

08/03/2003 We have just returned home from our first trip to Tybee Island in many years. This was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable weeks I have spent in years. The house was ready for us to move in for our vacation, the weather was cooperative, and the beach was beautiful. We enjoyed many of the local restaurants including Tango Cafe, Outback, A.J.'s , and of course the Breakfast Club. We were not ready to leave when our time ended so we have started planning our next trip. Thanks for thinking of every detail, Lauren. You planned for every whim we could have dreamed up. Beth, Dee, Angie, Amy, Sarah, LeeAnn, and Buster.

03/10/2006 I really loved the summer house in the back. It was so cute! The bold colors and flamingo kitsch was a FUN touch. It reminded me of the 'Hon tradition here in Baltimore! All of the personal thought and eclectic '50s decor made my family's stay at Tybee one to relive. Thanks alot! We look forward to staying here again =]

We enjoyed The Breakfast club. Try the pecan waffles. It is fantastic. Just a couple of blocks down on the right hand side.
the Crab shack has nice island atmosphere - complete with palm-leaf roofs and Jimmy buffet music. Everyone gets the Sampler Platter, but be prepared to work for your meal! Right on chimney Creek - nice, quiet location.
We just spent most of the time by the beach! It's about 3 miles to the north end - loevely walk, but bring
